Factions Championship:

The Guild Wars FactionsTM Championship ("GWFC") series is a set of online events that culminate in an international tournament that features $100,000 in cash, earned trips, and other great prizes for the top 6 finishing teams.

Events Eligibility

  • All Guild Wars® guilds are eligible to compete in GWFC season tournaments and the Guild Wars Factions Championship except those that include employees or contractors of NCsoft, ArenaNet, or each of their respective subsidiaries or affiliates or their advertising or promotion agencies, or those who are domiciled with any such person, or those who have been disqualified for other reasons (see below).

  • Guilds will be disqualified if they play a rated ladder game with any team member (guild member or guest) who is an employee or contractor of NCsoft, ArenaNet, or each of their respective subsidiaries or affiliates or their advertising or promotion agencies, or is domiciled with any such person.

  • Guilds will be disqualified if they engage in ladder abuse, as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion, or if they are banned from the game for any reason, including without limitation a violation of the Guild Wars User Agreement. If individual players are disqualified, the guild may also be disqualified.

  • The top 16 eligible registered guilds worldwide, according to their final ladder ranking at the end of each season, will be invited to participate in the GWFC seasonal playoffs.

  • Teams will be awarded GWFC Playoff Points based upon their final position in each seasonal playoff.

  • At the end of the 3rd season, the 5 guilds with the highest GWFC Playoff Point total will have earned an invitation to compete in the Guild Wars Factions Championship (with a maximum of 2 guilds from any specific region).

Notes

  • All Guild Wars Universal Tournament Rules are in effect for this event unless specifically overruled by information in Guild Wars Factions Championship rules.

  • Guilds may switch players or switch or modify characters on their single, tournament-qualified game account between games or after a restart, as long as they are ready to start on time. During the Seasonal and FactionsTM Championship tournaments, each player may only use characters from the one game account eligible to compete for the guild.

  • Guilds participating in the Guild Wars Factions Championship must provide a Tournament Roster of eight players to ArenaNet via email (and ArenaNet must have received such email) by July 12, 2006 08:00 (a.m.) GMT. The roster must include the following information: player's full name, mailing address, birth date, telephone number, email address, and a single account (user) name (not character name). This information is subject to ArenaNet's Privacy Policy

To be eligible for any tournament roster, the following requirements must be met:

  • As of March 7, 2006, each player must be age 16 or older. Players under age 18 will be required to provide notarized written consent of a parent or legal guardian to receive prizes and/or to travel to the Guild Wars Factions Championship.

  • Player must be able to travel without restriction to Germany.

  • Player must execute the following: A Publicity Release, a Liability Release, and Declaration of Eligibility. For a player under age 18, a parent or guardian must execute the Declaration and Releases in addition to the player.

  • Player must be a Guild Wars or Guild Wars Factions account holder in good standing and in compliance with the Guild Wars User Agreement.

  • Any player found to have changed guilds during that season will be disqualified and will cause his or her guild to be disqualified from participating in the playoffs.

  • Player must comply at all times with the Guild Wars Factions Championship Rules and the Universal Guild Wars Tournament Rules.

  • If a qualified guild does not provide a valid Tournament Roster or is otherwise unable to participate in the Seasonal Playoffs, ArenaNet may, at its discretion, invite another guild to participate in a Seasonal Playoff.

  • A list of player guidelines related to schedules, on-floor behavior, game mechanics, and other matters will be distributed upon confirmation of each player's qualification for Seasonal Playoffs. Players must abide by these guidelines. Failure to do so may result in disqualification from the Seasonal Playoffs or the Guild Wars Factions Championship. In the event that any guild, as a whole, is deemed to have broken the rules, the entire guild may be disqualified.

GWFC Seasons

The GWFC series consists of 3 seasons held throughout the first half of 2006, each of which culminates in single elimination playoffs for the top 16 ranked guilds. These seasonal playoffs will offer the victors fame and points (explained below) towards earning a slot in the Guild Wars Factions Championship!

Guild Registration

  • Any guild that wishes to participate in the GWFC Seasonal Playoff and which is in the top 16 on the Ladder at the conclusion of the qualifying season must register their guild tournament roster with ArenaNet by the cut-off date for that season.

  • Registration consists of submitting (and ArenaNet receiving) a season roster of 10 members of that guild to tournament@arena.net. These 10 guild members must have been continuous members in that guild during the 4 weeks of that season.

  • At least 6 players on the tournament roster must be residents of the region for which the guild is competing. Players who live in North, Central and South America are considered residents of the American Region. Players who live in a European country or Russia are considered residents of the European Region. Players who live in Korea are considered residents of the Korean Region. Players who live in Japan are considered residents of the Japanese Region. Players who live in Taiwan, Macau, or Hong Kong are considered residents of the Taiwanese Region. Players who live in areas of the world not currently serviced by a Guild Wars region, and not expressly mentioned above, may choose to qualify as residents of either the American or European Region.

  • Each member on this season roster must send in the following information:
    • Name
    • Mailing Address
    • Email address
    • Phone number
    • Date of Birth
    • Character names on their account

  • During the Seasonal Playoffs, the name of each participating guild will be posted on the official Guild Wars websites, along with each member's name and character names.

  • Only players (and accounts) on a guild's tournament roster may participate in the Seasonal Playoffs.

Guild Changes

While ArenaNet recognizes that guilds and the members of them will change over time, the purpose of the Guild Wars Factions Championship Series is to call out and reward guilds and their ongoing configurations throughout the year. As such, registered guilds will be limited in the changes allowed in their core tournament roster from season to season.

  • A guild's initial tournament roster will list 10 players as part of its tournament team for that season.

  • In a following season, that guild's tournament roster MUST contain at least 8 of the same members from the previous season in order to qualify to participate in the Seasonal Playoffs.

  • In the event that a guild tournament roster undergoes a larger change than 2 players from the previous season, that guild will not be eligible to participate in that Seasonal Playoff, nor is it eligible for the Seasons Playoff bonus points.

  • A guild that undergoes this larger change must wait until the following season to register, at which time it can submit a tournament roster of any 10 players (no limitations).

  • During the following season, however, this guild's tournament roster will once again have to follow the rule of 8 of the same players.

Tournament Structure

  • Each season will start with a reset of the Guild Wars Tournament Ladder; all guilds will then start with a rating of 1000.

  • During the 4 weeks of each season leading up to the Seasonal Playoffs, guilds will be able to compete against randomly paired (but weighted based upon ratings) guilds in single-game match play.

  • During the Seasonal Playoffs, the top 16 rated guilds will compete in a 4-round single elimination tournament (pairings based upon tournament ladder rating). Matches will consist of the best 2 out of 3 games.

Event Schedule

  • The first GWFC Season begins at 08:00 (a.m.) GMT on March 7, 2006 and ends at 08:00 (a.m.) GMT on April 3. Each subsequent season will start and end at 08:00 (a.m.) GMT on the days listed below.
