Tips for Players

We'd like to share some helpful information and a few suggestions to make sure you have the best possible experience playing Guild Wars. While some of these tips are standard Internet or privacy practices, we do encourage you to read through the entire list. A minute or two spent now can help keep your account secure:

• Purchase your account only from an authorized seller or the Official Guild Wars Store.
   
  • Check the "Where to Buy" pages for more information.
     
• Never purchase a used account or an opened box.
   
  • Reselling an account is prohibited. Due to the high level of abuse involved in resales, we are unable to provide support to accounts purchased in this way.
     
• Keep your user or account name and your date of birth private.
   
  • This personal information is tied directly to your Guild Wars and/or PlayNC master account. Keep this information confidential.
     
• Guard details about your PlayNC "hint question."
   
  • The "hint" feature is designed to help you retrieve your password in the event that you forget it. You should keep the question, and the answer, completely to yourself, because if an unscrupulous individual gets that info, he or she is one step closer to stealing your account.
     
• Never allow anyone else to access your account.
   
  • Sometimes a dishonest player will offer to "dupe" items, or will promise to add certain rewards to your account. Such offers are bogus and you should never give anyone access your account for those reasons or any others that you may be given. And remember: ArenaNet and NCsoft will never ask you for your access information.
     
• Make sure your password is complex and do not share it with anyone.
   
  • Generic passwords are bad. Use a completely different password each for the game, fansite registrations, and all other password uses.
     
• Don't download executables; do not try to obtain alleged hacks or cheats.
   
  • There are no functional "hacks" for Guild Wars, and third-party programs that work within the game are disallowed by the User Agreement. Sometimes they're called "utilities" or "tools," but all should be viewed with skepticism, for the Support Team confirms that these offers are nearly always connected to attempts to steal your account or your personal information.
     
• Don't use bots or exploits.
   
  • We do not warn or block; we permanently terminate the accounts of those who use bots or exploits.
     
• Do not attempt to buy an account or access key for in-game gold or items.
   
  • People offering an access key or an account for in-game items or gold are nearly always attempting a scam. Support cannot retrieve or replace any lost gold or items in instances where a player is scammed by another player.
     
• Do not purchase gold or items for real-world currency.
   
  • Those involved in either the sale or purchase of gold or items face account termination.
     
• Use real information when creating a PlayNC master account.
   
  • Your PlayNC master account is linked to your Guild Wars account. The use of phony information can result in our inability to provide support for your account. If you are unable to access your account due to the use of bogus information, you will not be able to make necessary changes to your account.
     
• Merge your accounts by adding your new key to your existing account.
   
  • If you wish to merge your Guild Wars campaigns to enable all of your characters to access the content of every campaign that you own, do not create a new account with your key. Instead, add your new access key to your existing account.
